James Philip Wilt

Great-grandfather of W. Donald Wilt, PCC

James Philip Wilt, son of Jacob Wilt and Julia Ann Tracy, was born June 1, 1846 in Ward Township, Athens County, Ohio.

He enlisted October 8, 1863 as a Private and was mustered into Company H, 12th Ohio Cavalry on November 5, 1863. During his time of service the unit saw action at Mount Sterling, Kentucky, Saltville and Marion, Virginia, along with a number of small engagements. Private Wilt was mustered out on November 14, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

James died August 1, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio and was interred in Forest Rose Cemetery, Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio.
