Jonathan Green Hatch
Veteran of the 123rd New York Infantry, 1862-1865
On Saturday, April 11, the final resting place of Jonathan Green Hatch will be commemorated with an official military headstone. Mr. Hatch served with the 123rd New York Infantry for three years during the Civil War.He came west seeking a new life after his time of service. And, like too many of his fellow veterans, he was affected by the traumas of the battlefield. After many incidents that today would be probably ascribed to PTSD, Jonathan was placed in an asylum. He died there on July 9, 1880, and was buried in an unmarked plot in the Stockton Rural Cemetery.
After much research and diligent work by his family, genealogy researchers, and James Monteton of the SUVCW, Jonathan is finally getting his due recognition as a Civil War veteran. On April 11 at 10:00 AM, a newly installed military headstone will be dedicated in a formal ceremony, including a musket salute by Company B of the 8th California Regiment.
The public is welcome to attend. Please see this flyer for more details.
